VTC6 (US18650VTC6) is a sixth-generation cell from Sony / Murata. It is the most well-known and widely sold 18650 cell in the world (as of 2019).
It offers an excellent capacity of 3000 mAh with a high discharge current of up to 30 A.
Compared to the previous, fifth-generation VTC5, it offers improved capacity while maintaining a discharge current of up to 30 A.
Thanks to its high discharge capability, it is widely used in power tools, devices, and gadgets that require high output power. For flashlight applications, its discharge current is excessive; a higher-capacity battery such as the LG MJ1 3500 mAh – 10 A is a better choice.
Instead of chasing higher capacity, Sony focused on improving the internal resistance of the VTC6 cell to ensure high power output.
